HPD® Evaporation and Crystallization
HPD Receives Award to Expand Chlor-Alkali Facility for Carbocloro S. A.
For Immediate Release
Plainfield, Illin. and Sao Paulo, Brazil, Sept. 12, 2006 - HPD and Veolia Water Systems Brasil Ltda. (VWS Brazil) have been chosen to expand Carbocloro S.A.'s chlor-alkali facility located in Cubatao, Brazil.
HPD and VWS Brazil, companies of Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies, will design and supply equipment for a membrane cell NaOH evaporation system to expand Carbocloro's caustic production. The system is comprised of a double-effect, falling film concentration system designed to concentrate approximately 320 MTPD of membrane grade NaOH from 32% to 50.5% total solids. The system utilizes shell and tube heat transfer technology for the main evaporation system and feed pre-heaters. Special consideration was given to material selection due to the highly corrosive characteristics of the caustic process stream.
HPD and VWS Brazil were chosen due to their past experience and expertise in the chlor-alkali industry and project execution capabilities in the region. The system is scheduled to be commissioned in early 2008.
Carbocloro S.A. Indústrias Químicas has been present in Brazil since 1964 and is a joint venture between UNIPAR - União de Indústrias Petroquímicas S/A (a privately-owned Brazilian group active in the chemicals and petrochemicals areas) and the American company, Occidental Chemical Corporation.
