HPD to Provide Caustic Soda Concentration System for Formosa Plastics' Petrochemical Complex in Taiwan

For Immediate Release

GETXO, Spain, and PLAINFIELD, Ill., March 1, 2004 - HPD has been awarded a contract to provide a multi-million dollar three-effect caustic soda concentration system at Formosa Plastics Corporation's large industrial complex in Mailiao, Taiwan.

The membrane cell caustic soda concentration system will have a capacity of 1,300 metric tons per day. The system will increase the facility's overall caustic soda evaporation capacity by fifty percent and is the third caustic soda concentration system installed at this facility.

The HPD caustic soda concentration system design is based upon the use of large shell and tube heat exchangers and utilizes nickel and high alloy materials of construction. The system is designed for maximum energy efficiency and low steam consumption.

HPD will provide engineering design, complete process equipment supply, field construction certification, start-up commissioning, operator training and design verification. The caustic soda concentration system is scheduled for commissioning in early 2005.

The Formosa Plastics Group is the largest private enterprise in Taiwan. The Group includes Formosa Plastics Corporation, Formosa Chemicals & Fibre Corporation, Formosa Petrochemical Corporation and more than 20 other investments in Taiwan, the United States, China, and Indonesia, in addition to several large educational and medical organizations.
